The best places to start Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way

 Europe's most spectacular coastal route

What is the Wild Atlantic Way?

This coastal route covers over 1,600 miles - or 2,600 km - from the Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal to the town of Kinsale in County Cork. Following the outer edge of Europe, you can drive or cycle along the entire route, or pick a section to explore at your leisure. Weave your way through some of Ireland's most breathtaking scenery, discover charming coastal towns and villages brimming with hospitality, and uncover hidden gems on foot, by bike or by kayak.

Northern Headlands & Surf Coast

Fly into Donegal Airport to experience the dramatic coastlines and fabulous surf spots of this northernmost section of the route. Wind your way through County Donegal, County Sligo, and into County Mayo, exploring stunning surfing hotspots including Bundoran and Mullaghmore, or the vast, golden sands at Rossnowlagh and Ballymastocker Bay. Spend some time in lively Donegal Town - with its long musical tradition, you're bound to find a band playing - or escape the crowds and soak up the relaxed charm and Irish hospitality of Bundoran, Enniscrone or Belmullet.
